AGC Automotive Americas is North America’s fastest growing automotive glass and glazing systems supplier. The company needed its geographically dispersed divisions, departments, and plants to collaboratively share and manage corporate knowledge assets such as policies, training, financials, and departmental documents.
Business Pressure
This project involved the implementation of a enterprise-wide portal using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 to promote collaboration across a variety of globally dispersed departments and manufacturing plants. The previous solution was a combination of difficult to use web pages, network file shares and personal hard drives. AGC needed a consistent user experience and meaningful information architecture built using standard components that were easy to maintain by their business content contributors.
Fusion Solution
To tackle this business challenge, we designed and implemented Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 integrating all departmental and plant web sites into a single portal experience. The result was streamlined user experience with unified common themes and features. The solution was intuitive for multiple user types, easy for the business to maintain, and it allowed collaborative sharing and management of various documents, workflow, and other day-to-day tasks and activities. It also supported a portal level communications capability that automatically propagated to the multiple sites and their users. Additional customizations included automatic url redirection for users to their department sites and a recycle bin feature to prevent accidental deletion of content.
